Overhung pattern designs have a larger outer diameter which increases the capacity of the refiner plate
and the amount of available bar edge length, or kilometers per revolution (Km/rev) for increased plate
life and improved pulp quality. Since the hydraulic flow range of any low consistency refiner is determined
by the rotational speed and the plate diameter, the capacity of the refiner can be increased with a larger
diameter plate. The higher no-load energy of an overhung plate can be offset
by longer plate life and pulp
of lower intensity refining.
